A local miners’ cooperative and the ESMI eco plant, gold panning, ore crushing and XRF, lunch in Banga, Tunan waterfall and the stone tombs of Sawangan.
Pan for gold with local miners, crack your own stone and sleep under the stars above Lake Tondano. Guided by ESMI — mercury-free.

In the Minahasa the ancestors are called Opo. They rest in the waruga, they divided the land at Watu Pinawetengan, and they washed gold from these rivers long before the VOC arrived. Every expedition begins the way a guest should: with a quiet moment of respect, led by a local elder.
Pick an expedition and tap a numbered stop for its photo and story. At some stops you can talk to someone who lived there. Press Route tour to travel the whole route, and switch to the 1853 map to see the land as the Dutch surveyors drew it.
At the cooperative you crush a piece of quartz ore with a small hammer in a cobek — the volcanic-stone mortar every Minahasan kitchen uses for sambal. Then you pan the powder and see what the earth was hiding.
Tap the stone. A few good knocks should do it — what is inside is a surprise.

2 days · 1 hotel + 1 wild campDay one in the gold belt, a night in Tomohon, sunrise on Mahawu crater, sulphur fields, the 1809 Tondano war — and a wild camp by the lake.
3 days · 1 hotel + 2 wild campsEverything in the trail, then north by jeep: fossil coral, obsidian beaches, tarsiers at dusk and a beach camp at Batuputih.
Restored Land Cruiser FJ40s with a chauffeur. A private chef cooking Minahasan and international dishes at a candle-lit table above Lake Tondano. A safari suite with a king-size bed under the stars. Your own historian and geologist — and the gold you find, crafted into a piece of jewellery by our goldsmith.

On every expedition we visit one of the local miners’ cooperatives in North Minahasa — families who have washed gold in these hills for generations — together with the ESMI team that works with them on mercury-free mining.

Indicative split per guest. We publish the real figures every year in our impact report.

An ESMI technician scans what you found with the ESMI XRF analyser. On the tablet you see it straight away — gold, silver, copper, in parts per million. You take the result home as your geological passport.

Demo values. On tour, the ESMI technician scans your real find and the passport is emailed to you.
A professional videographer or photographer travels with you for the whole expedition — at the river, the crater rim and the campfire. You live the moment; they capture it. Families, couples and groups get a film and photos that feel like a documentary about you.

Every Treasure Hunt stops at a local restaurant in Banga for a proper Minahasan lunch. Vegetarian and mild options on request; no exotic meats on our menus.

No amethyst, no blue lace agate, no fist-sized nuggets — just honest local geology. That's the point.
North Sulawesi lies on the Wallace Line: half of its mammals live nowhere else on Earth. On the expeditions a Tangkoko ranger shows you who lives here, and how to behave as a guest. All animals below are protected by Indonesian law.
On the 2 and 3-day expeditions you sleep out: above Lake Tondano on village land, and on the beach at Batuputih. Bell tents or hammocks, a camp crew, dinner by the fire, kolintang if you like — and a sky with no city in it.

Native trees on old mining land, cleaner rivers, ranger patrols for the yaki and the tarsier, and the switch to mercury-free mining. Published every quarter, audited by ESMI.
Year-one targets shown as demo figures.
